An old man contemplates progress (right) while a young man in a suit hurries back to work (left). With Credit Suisse and BArclays offices stacked on top of luxury malls and shiny storefronts, Canary Wharf is a place for movers and shakers. Everyone wears a suit, and everyone is in a hurry.
This is the apex of capitalism.
I wonder what the old man is thinking.
And if the kid on the left could ever understand.
I like the contrast of your capture. My BF and I were here back in 2002 (we’re from So California) and visited Canary Wharf just because. We hung out for a couple of hours and just so happened to be there when the offices were ‘released’ for the evening. We watched this mass exodus unplanned and without expectation. And then we noticed it: apparently every last one of these people went straight for a pub … not home. First thing’s first, right? Is that the way it works in London? Hmmm perhaps I ought to go back there. Spent three years off and on in Soham, the village in Ely, Cambridgeshire. Good times!
Great capture!
I was in security many years ago and held a post at HSBC Canary Wharf, the ‘suits’ were an obnoxious race and those below ranks were frowned up, i hated the two days i worked there.
Passed through here every day when I was working in London. It was only ever a place to catch my bus.
I had the misfortune to work in Canary Wharf for a large part of 2016. Horrible place!
Maybe he’ll understand when he gets to the old man’s age, if he lives that long.
